R-Crypto – Disk Encryption Tool
By using the R-Crypto Windows application you can protect your sensitive data from prying eyes by encrypting it. This is advisable if you share your computer with someone else, for example, and you want a safe place to store all your private data. The R-Cypto application does precisely that – it creates an encrypted virtual drive where you can safely store any file you want.
The R-Crypto installation file is of 2.9MB. Through the installation process you are guided by a straightforward setup wizard. You can install R-Crypto on multiple Windows editions, from Windows 2000 to Windows 7.
The R-Crypto interface, which has a strong Windows XP feel, displays its main functions to the left. From the “General” menu to the left, you can create a new disk, connect an already created disk, disconnect all disks, close the R-Crypto panel, or disconnect all disks and exit the application. From the “More” menu you can access the Settings, the Help, and the About menus. The “Recent Encrypted Disks” does just what it names suggests – it displays the encrypted disks you created.
As mentioned above, this data protection utility creates an encrypted virtual disk that provides real-time data encryption and decryption. The data you store on the virtual disk is encrypted before being written to the disk and it is decrypted when it is read from the disk. Access to the encrypted virtual disk is password protected. You can access the disk only if you provide the right password.
R-Crypto stores all the virtual disk data alongside the disk meta-data, in a single file-container. This means you can put the virtual encrypted disk that R-Crypto created onto any hard drive, USB-stick, CD/DVD, network.
Please note that R-Crypto is only free to try. You can use the application for free for a 30-day trial period.
R-Crypto provides a safe environment where you can store all your private, sensitive files that you don’t want others to be able to access.
Pros
Works with basically any Windows edition. Create a virtual encrypted disk and store your private files on that disk. The interface is quite user friendly. The encrypted disk can be put on any storage device.
Cons
Free to use for a 30-day trial.
